Electroacupuncture Q&A

What is electroacupuncture?

Traditional acupuncture uses hair-thin needles to bring healing to specific pressure points in your body. Electroacupuncture takes this treatment one step further by attaching small electrodes to gently increase the amount of stimulation. This may feel like a subtle vibration during treatment.

Electroacupuncture treatments are often shorter and can address broader areas of your body, thanks to the additional stimulation. Electroacupuncture activates your sympathetic nerve fibers, releasing endorphins, making this an excellent treatment for reducing pain and lingering stress.

What are the benefits of electroacupuncture?

In addition to treating general pain and stress, electroacupuncture effectively addresses:

Gastrointestinal issues

If you frequently experience nausea or vomiting, electroacupuncture can help settle your gastrointestinal system.

Musculoskeletal problems

Back pain, neck pain, and joint pain all respond well to this treatment.

Mental and emotional issues

If you combat anxiety, depression, or chronic stress or can’t seem to get consistent, restful sleep, electroacupuncture may make a difference where other treatments have come up short.

This list is not exhaustive. Contact Twin Acupuncture to find out if your condition might benefit from electroacupuncture.

Can I get electroacupuncture?

Your well-being is the top priority at Twin Acupuncture, so an initial consultation is required for electroacupuncture. If you are eligible for this treatment and want to seek immediate care, Kerri makes an effort to get you in on the same day as your initial consultation.

Avoid electroacupuncture if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Epilepsy
  • Heart disease
  • Seizures
  • Strokes

Kerri can also recommend other treatments for you if you have a pacemaker.

What can I expect from an electroacupuncture session?

Visits are very similar to a regular acupuncture appointment. You wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing and sit or lie on a table while Kerri inserts the fine needles into treatment points.

She then connects the needles via electrodes to a specialized electroacupuncture machine and adjusts the intensity to your comfort. The treatment is relatively painless, and you should feel quite relaxed during and after.
