About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an effective form of medical treatment that encourages the body to promote natural healing and improve function. It involves the insertion of needles and stimulation at specific points that have the ability to alter biochemical and physiological conditions in order to achieve balance within the body. Acupuncture works to alleviate pain and boost the body’s natural responses to inflammation, posture misalignment, illness and infection. It is a safe, painless and effective way to treat a wide variety of medical problems. Acupuncture has been proven to help reduce the pain and inflammation associated with localized trauma and injury, and can also facilitate healing.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based on the concept that disease and injury are the result of a disruption or imbalance of qi (pronounced “chee” is an essential substance that nourishes the body). An imbalance may create pain if the body’s qi is not moving properly through a specific area or meridians (pathways of energy).  It can create a variety of symptoms, including, but not limited to, pain, insomnia, digestive disturbances, anxiety, and fatigue. Acupuncture adjusts the flow of qi in the body by inserting fine needles into the body at points that are shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. By restoring the free flow of qi in the body, acupuncture harmonizes and balances the body for optimal health and performance.
