Acupuncture FAQ’s

IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

Yes. Acupuncture needles are very fine, sterile, disposable, and FDA approved. A licensed acupuncturist has had thorough training on the safe implementation of this treatment modality.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

This depends on your individual diagnosis, the severity of your case, the chronic nature of your condition and how you respond to acupuncture. Generally, acute problems require less time and frequency of treatment. For example, an acute sprain may require only three or four treatments, whereas chronic or severe ailments may require more treatments. If you have a chronic problem for many years, you may need regular visits to correct the imbalance in your system.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE TREATMENTS TO WORK?

A positive response to acupuncture treatment is generally seen after the first to fourth treatment. If you are being treated for a chronic, long standing problem, give the treatments two to three months for your body to respond. You will schedule your appointments further apart once you have achieved an optimal response to treatment.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE TREATED?

This depends on what you are being treated for. In acute conditions of recent onset, you may only require 2 or 3 treatments. It is common for treatments to be scheduled one to two times per week in the beginning to obtain optimal response; then moving from once a week to every other week until our treatment goals are met.

Acupuncture is also often used as a preventative medicine. Many people see their acupuncturist only 2-4 times a year for a “tune up” or “balancing” treatment. This can prevent disease and promote health, energy and vitality.
